The first book I remember reading – and carrying around for as long as my school’s library would let me – was Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr. Fox. This one book created a passion for stories that still has not abated, though I have replaced my love of fantastic foxes with a fondness for grumpy old Scandinavian men OR nosy young women on crumbling Cornish estates, depending on my mood. I rarely reread books, but that’s mostly because there are so many interesting characters and unique stories out there – in all kinds of genres and fields of study.

Like many others, I came to librarianship because I loved to read and loved to talk to others about books – and because I didn’t want to manage a Barnes and Noble. I like to categorize things (you’ll be unsurprised to hear that I was once a cataloger) but I also love to talk about those books that defy easy categorization, and was lucky enough to land a job at NoveList where I can do this to my heart’s content. As a NextReads bibliographer, I get to explore the world of reading and share the best of it with readers.

If you’re interested in hearing more about the daily life of a NextReads bibliographer, and the work we do, I encourage you to sign up to receive our email updates (they’ll come about once a month).
