Kate Fletcher

Metadata Librarian I

As the resident Canadian at NoveList, Kate leads our Canadian team, ensuring Canadian materials are well represented in NoveList. As a member of the nonfiction and subject heading workgroups, she is busy revising and expanding headings to improve access to our titles. And she also works on developing and refining our algorithm to keep our recommendations on point.

When she’s not at NoveList, Kate likes to spend her time eating her way through various cities -- most often Montreal where she grew up. Kate is also an enthusiastic cook, and as an extension of this hobby, can be found browsing cookbooks, or reading any food writing she can get her hands on (Current favorites are Melissa Clark’s Cook this now, and James Beard’s Delights and Prejudices). She also recently acquired a huge box of Swarovski crystal beads, and so she will be beading jewelry for everyone’s presents for the foreseeable future. Kate loves to read memoirs, and books that make her think about other people’s life experiences. She tends to reach for titles that are thought-provoking with a strong sense of place, and she usually favors characters that are flawed. Her all-time favorite book is Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. Some of her favorite genres include social science fiction, and fantasy, and she always has at least one book loaded onto her Kindle, and a print book sitting on her desk (though often the number is more like 2 or 3!)
