Steal this idea: Best of lists
Everyone loves lists. Just look at any magazine cover, Pinterest feed or popular blog post. They all snag readers with “Top 10 Solutions for…” and “7 Easy Ways to…” lists. So why not create lists like this customized for your library, featuring the books your patrons checked out the most this year? Or how about the books highest in demand, determined by your holds lists? Your library’s integrated library system (ILS) and circulation data offer great resources for creating lists your patrons will love.

Readers’ advisory resolutions for the new year
It’s the start of a new year and you’re probably either making resolutions or telling everyone who asks that you *don’t* make resolutions. I fall somewhere in between, setting intentions—which are really resolutions that feel less resolute. Every year, since the beginning of my library career, I’ve set an intention to be a better readers’ advisor and come up with a couple of strategies to do that. If you’ve also set resolutions to become a better readers’ advisor in 2019 and are looking for strategies, let me take you on a tour of the resources NoveList has to help you.

Matching YA biographies with teen readers
If you work in public libraries, you're probably familiar with the habits of adult biography readers. Adult biography readers typically know what they like, and they're not shy about asking for it. The same can't be said for teens, however. Young adult biographies can be inventive, affirming, mind-blowing, heartbreaking, or young adult biographies can be inventive, affirming, mind-blowing, heartbreaking, or inspiring (sometimes all at once!), but it may take a little extra effort to match them with the right readers.

We think of the series as a 101 crash course for some of the more popular genres, designed to give librarians a sense of why readers are drawn to the genre; some tips for talking with fans; key books in the genre to know; sub-genres and crossover titles to keep in mind; and tips for searching NoveList for themes, appeal terms, and genre information and more.
