Serving together: Reflections on ALA, 2018

ALA in New Orleans was packed full of good food, inspiring speakers (Michelle Obama!), and (of course) librarians. Helping libraries act as change agents

Recently, young people across the United States have made headlines with a mix of passion, integrity, and openness about issues ranging from gun violence to the environment to immigration. Their engagement with policies that directly affect their lives has captured and held the world’s attention. Many people have a renewed sense of hope in the next generation, which has led to this refreshing development: young people with informed opinions on the state of society, and grown-ups ready to listen.

You asked, we listened!: Diversity appeal on adult titles

Back in 2015, in response to #weneeddiversebooks, NoveList created four diversity character appeal terms: ability diverse, culturally diverse, LGBTQIA diverse, and religiously diverse to juvenile titles. After many discussions and a lot of work, we have begun adding diversity appeal to adult titles, too!
