CODES Convo: Building Book Communities

I currently have the distinct honor of chairing the RUSA CODES Readers’ Advisory and Trends Committee. We are in the process of getting ready for our next “Codes Conversation” scheduled for Tuesday, November 19th, from 10 am - 6 pm EST, on the topic of Building Book Communities – Partnering with Authors, Publishers, and Booksellers

The topic arose quite naturally based on the interests and skills of the great team of librarians serving with me on this committee. Guest moderators Kaite Stover (Kansas City Public Library) and Dena Heilik (Free Library of Philadelphia) will be sharing their expertise as we explore how to plan an author event or speaker series at your library, how to work directly with authors and publishers to arrange events and various strategies for partnering with bookstores to sell books and publicize events. We anticipate lively discussion and expect that lots of tips, best practices, and great ideas will be shared. (Perhaps also some comparing of notes about what dream authors we’d like to lure to our libraries.)

CODES Conversations are focused on issues facing collection development and readers’ advisory librarians and are open to anybody interested in the topic. For more details about this event, and instructions about how to sign up, please see the announcement on the RUSA website.

We hope you will join us!

Victoria Fredrick, on behalf of the RUSA CODES Readers’ Advisory Research and Trends Committee
