At NoveList we make a concerted effort to monitor what’s new and talked about for Canadian libraries. Each week we scan bestseller lists from across the country in the hope that we include the most popular books in our product. We also have a Canadian team whose goal is to make sure Canadian titles are recognized in our database.
That’s why when we heard about Loan Stars we were really excited to jump on board. Loan Stars is a new reader’s advisory service exclusive to Canadian library staff. If you are an employee at a Canadian library you can vote for your favourite forthcoming adult fiction or nonfiction title, and these votes will be compiled into monthly top-ten lists.
Novelist plans to handle these lists much like we do the Library Reads lists. We will have them available in our awards section so librarians will be able to access all the titles. We will also make sure each book has a handwritten read-alike – which is nice for patrons who might be waiting on a hold list for that book, or for those looking to find something they’ll enjoy just as much.
The first list is scheduled to come out in April (for May publications), so there is still time to cast a vote! If you are interested in participating or if you would like more information please visit the Loan Stars website.
Kate Fletcher is a Cataloger at NoveList, and leads our Canadian team to ensure that Canadian materials are well-represented.
