I had never heard of Debora Geary so was pleasantly surprised by her Witchlight trilogy. I started off with Witches on Parole just to sample her writing and ended up plowing through the other titles with relish: Witches Under Way and Witches in Flight.

These contemporary fantasies revolve around a community of witches called Witch Central set in Berkeley, California. The thing that attracted me most was the warmth and love shown by the characters to one another as well as the relationships between Lizard and Elsie and their mentors. The two new witches are lead to discover and accept themselves in this humorous and dynamic environment.

If you like knitting, yoga, real estate, or photography there are tidbits through the series to pique your interest. In Geary’s world the witches could eat anything they wanted due to their high metabolisms so beware of the descriptions of ice cream, cookies, and spaghetti sauce that will tempt you. I definitely came away wishing I was part of the community too.
