SPOILER ALERT: Stop reading now if you want to avoid spoilers.

My fellow Downton fans,

Do you share my shock and grief at the turn of events in episode 4? Unto Downton a child is born!  But there are complications and dueling doctors cannot agree on the best course of treatment for Sybil.

I don’t have perfect tie-ins for this episode because, frankly, it broke my heart. Instead, I’m going to recommend some dramatic titles to help expend some of this emotional energy.

These are my recommendations for episode 4:

The house at Riverton by Kate Morton
Long-buried secrets are brought to light when a former servant is interviewed about her time with the aristocratic Hartford family at their estate in Edwardian England.

The girl on the cliff by Lucinda Riley
Two families in southern Ireland, one rich (the Lisles) and one not-so-rich (the Ryans), are inextricably linked by their hatred of one another over the course of 100 years.

More titles next week, after my grief at the death of a fictional character has been assuaged.
