Career Guidance System™ This resource offers students, counselors, teachers and parents a centralized location to work together on career and college guidance. Career Guidance System™ offers a quick, user-friendly system over the Internet, suited to many situations - whether a class of students is drafting career goals, or a student conducts a college search independently, or a counselor assists students. This comprehensive system also offers individualized portfolio tools, and reporting features for educators and administrators, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Career Guidance System helps to make the career curriculum connection, and guide plans for post-secondary options. Career Guidance System offers several important elements: Career and Postsecondary Exploration – In this exploratory segment, users search current data on over 2,500+ occupations, apprenticeships and military jobs; access a resume builder with tips and options for customization; view occupational interviews with experienced professionals; locate jobs classified into U.S. Department of Education's 16 Career Clusters; mine current data on nearly 4,000 two-year and four-year colleges as well as private trade schools; and access occupational videos in English and Spanish. Assessments – This segment lets users access research-based interest and skills assessments, which connect specific results to career clusters and/or occupations. These assessments are available in English and Spanish. Academic Planning – This component allows for exploration of higher education and finds institutions that meet specific needs and goals. It offers a multi-year academic planner with drop-down course offerings; integrated, visible tracking of dual/articulated credits in partnership with technical or community colleges; crosswalks highlighting connections between high school subjects and/or college majors and occupations, and a comprehensive lifelong electronic portfolio (individual graduation portfolio), including ability to download personal history. Skill Development – This component helps students to enhance their work-skills and knowledge through a series of tools. It includes journal prompts to promote analysis and growth of workplace skills; weekly quizzes to improve student achievement on SAT, ACT, GED, and state proficiency tests; daily history and vocabulary quizzes to reinforce content acquisition; student learning activities connecting job skills to curriculum topics; and a goal builder to identify important personal, career and academic goals. Standards-Aligned Curriculum – This component offers Unit and Lesson plans providing career options in cross-curricular areas. It is designed to meet the objectives of No Child Left Behind and the ASCA National Model, and includes content aligned with most state and local curriculum standards. Transition Tools – Career Guidance System provides a variety of tools to add to the user experience including audio prompts for all assessment questions, summary of performance module to record postsecondary transition plans, and various life skills activities. Administrative Reports/Management – Career Guidance System provides many administrative options and reports for each user to customize and learn from his/her experience. It offers hundreds of real-time individual and aggregate reports on student usage, including assessment result reports by career cluster. Reports can be filtered by gender, ethnicity, and grade level. The system also offers the ability to upload course lists, graduation requirements, and certain student data.
