Brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright designed and flew the first controllable airplane in sustained flight.
Their historic 1903 flight took place in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The design for their historic plane,
The Flyer, grew from the Wrights' experience designing and repairing bicycles. Today, a replica of the
aircraft is displayed in the Smithsonian Museum.
