History Search Tips

Use this site as a model for searches you can do on your own in the library, for important calendar events, such as Black History Month, Women’s History Month, and Presidents' Day.

To search for video footage, ask your librarian to show you EBSCO Publishing’s
History Reference Center
database.

1.    Click the green Images/Videos Tab at the top of the screen.
2.    Keep the Video box checked. Uncheck Images.
3.    Enter a keyword for the video in the FIND box.
4.    Click Search

To search for a variety of articles about a subject, or primary source documents,
ask your librarian to show you EBSCO Publishing’s school library databases.

1.    Choose a Database.
2.    Enter a keyword in the FIND box.
3.    Check the Full Text box.
4.    Click Search.
5.    View/Sort/Narrow Your Results by clicking on of the following icons on your result list:

nnnn Periodicals
nnnn Newspapers
nnnn Reference Books
nnnn Biographies
nnnn Primary Source Documents
nnnn Images

To search for primary source documents, go to your library’s EBSCO Publishing databases,
and conduct a general search.
 

1.    Choose a Database.
2.    Enter a keyword in the FIND box.
3.    Check the Full Text box.
4.    Click Search.
5.    View/Sort/Narrow Your Results by clicking the following icons on your result list:
nnnnPrimary Source Documents.

~OR~

1.    Choose a Database.
2.    Enter a keyword in the FIND box.
3.    Check the  Full Text box.
4.    In the PUBLICATION box, enter one of the following titles:
nnnlEssential Speeches
nnnlEssential Documents in American History
nnnlVital Speeches of the Day
nnn (These are three excellent collections of primary source documents)
5.    Click Search.
