Refrigeration
The way Americans ate and stored food changed in 1915, when the first electric refrigerator was introduced. The refrigerator kept foods constantly cold with chemical coolants, as opposed to the ice box, a predecessor that depended on blocks of ice. The refrigerator also inspired such innovations as frozen foods and ice cube trays.
