Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (1929-1994)

"If you bungle raising your children, I don't think whatever else you do matters very much."

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was the wife of President John F. Kennedy, and later of Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. Born Jacqueline Lee Bouvier in 1929, she grew into a debutante steeped in literature, languages, and the arts. As First Lady, she redecorated the White House with refined decor and portraits from the founding fathers, and transformed the White House into a cultural spotlight. Her inner strength, poise, and grace inspired millions, most poignantly in the days and months following President Kennedy's assassination in 1963. Long after her years in the White House, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis pursued a successful publishing career as an editor. She died of cancer in 1994.
