Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865)
16th President of the United States
|
"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more
important than any one thing."

|
| Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States of America. An eloquent, self-educated lawyer with a kind and straightforward manner, he rose from humble beginnings in rural Kentucky to a nation's highest office. "Honest Abe," as he was known in deference to his character, is most noted for his tireless commitment to national unity during the American Civil War, one of the most tumultuous periods in U.S. history, and for ending slavery with the Emancipation Proclamation. Lincoln was assassinated in Ford's Theatre, Washington, D.C., just days after the Confederate army surrendered to Union forces in April 1865. |
