Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)
3rd President of the United States of America

"Honesty is the first chapter of the book of wisdom."

Thomas Jefferson is the author of The Declaration of Independence and the third president of the United States. During his presidency, he was responsible for The Louisiana Purchase, securing land from France to expand the United States westward beyond the Mississippi River. He commissioned Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to lead an expedition to explore the territory.

Possessing phenomenal intellectual curiosity, and fluent in several languages, Jefferson also lent his talents to pursuits beyond government, including architecture, invention, and education. Jefferson founded the University of Virginia later in his life, and held the accomplishment as one of his proudest.
