John Audubon (1785-1851)
"A true conservationist is a man who knows that the world is not given by his fathers, but borrowed from his children."
John Audubon was a celebrated ornithologist and painter of birds who catalogued and described the birds of North America with such precision that his books are still used today as field guides and resources. The National Audubon Society, an organization which works towards environmental conservation, was named in his honor.
