EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) is a customized collection of locally indexed metadata that enables a unified search of a library’s entire collection. This customized approach to content allows libraries to create the optimal search experience for end users to take advantage of the library’s complete collection and available full text. Running in parallel with the importance of custom content is the ability for libraries to customize the EDS interface and its entry points. For this purpose, EBSCO has developed Open Integration, which offers libraries an unprecedented array of customization options.
Open Integration features available with EDS include:
- Many options to tie the EDS experience into the look and feel of the library and overall marketing approach of the institution (including main search page)
-
Enhanced branding options for institution logo as well as HTML graphic placement (with the EBSCOhost logo understated with “powered by” at the footer)
[View Screenshot: Basic Search] - Ability to change the color combinations of the interface (search screens, result screens, full records, etc.) to match institution colors
- A customizable tool bar allowing you to decide the link wording and destination (this can be used to call attention to other resources such as listing services, etc.)
- Options to create and post simple search boxes with the custom look of your discovery experience for quick discovery searches from any of the institution's web pages
- Ability to “name” the discovery experience to your liking
- Ability to import a variety of “widgets” into EDS and export portions of EBSCOhost functionality onto your web sites
