Tim Collins is the President and Founder of EBSCO Publishing (EP). In 1983, he co-founded a company specializing in indexing and abstracting periodical information, which was subsequently purchased by EBSCO Industries, Inc. and became EBSCO Publishing.
Tim has overseen the explosive growth that has taken EP from a niche provider of print indexes in the 1980s to what is today one of the world’s most important for-fee internet research services. Tim Collins has guided the company to very strong organic growth, combined with a steady stream of highly strategic acquisitions. He has succeeded in his goal to make EP the licensor of the world’s highest quality journals & magazines, which is unique in the industry and has caused EP to become the foremost provider of full-text journal & magazine databases to libraries.
With an emphasis on creating, licensing, and acquiring the world’s best subject indexes, the company is now positioned as the definitive platform for subject indexes in most subject areas. Tim Collins leadership has resulted in EP now being able to offer the only discovery service with comprehensive metadata, a truly integrated e-book platform, the most up-to-date evidence-based point-of-care medical reference tools, and powerful corporate learning resources.
Tim has been interviewed in many industry publications, including Library Journal, Information Today, Research Information, Business & the Environment, etc.
In addition, Mr. Collins has been the driving force behind the reduction of EBSCO Publishing’s environmental footprint, instating many new cutting edge policies, such as the conversion of EP’s entire fleet of company cars over to hybrid vehicles, the installation of over 400 solar panels and electric car charging stations at the company’s Ipswich, Massachusetts headquarters, the distribution of over 150,000 green bags to librarians and local residents, etc. Tim has also donated to the Trustees of Reservations for the solar array at Appleton Farms.
As a business leader in Massachusetts, Tim was named a North Shore Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Leader 2012. He was also named to the North Shore 100, a list of the top business leaders in North Shore 100 Magazine.
The Collins Career and Resource Center at the Whittemore School of Business at Tim’s alma mater, the University of New Hampshire, bears his name.
Tim lives on the North Shore of Boston with his wife Emily and two children.
