The ATLA Historical Monographs Collection consists of three series that provide access to more than 29,000 titles—or more than 10 million pages—focused on religion and theology. Dating mostly from 1850 through 1922, a time of great doctrinal, social and organizational turmoil and upheaval in American culture, this resource is vital for scholars seeking to understand religious thought and practice in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Topics covered include church life, demographics, doctrinal disputes, higher criticism, Judeo-Christian religions, Non-Western religions, and social movements.

Islam in the Modern World, 1804-1913, is a special segment of the ATLA Historical Monographs Collection, which includes 150 titles, 172 volumes, and more than 52,000 pages. It covers the beliefs, practices, theology, spirituality, and history of Islam.  Content includes biographies of the prophet Muhammad, works comparing Christianity and Islam, key theological and philosophical texts (including the Quran), relevant mystical and spiritual works, and texts surveying the history of Islam.
