Created by Librarians, for Librarians

This collection is a selective list of fiction and non-fiction titles—recommended by collection development specialists—for high school students (grades 9 through 12), along with review sources and other professional aids for librarians and school media specialists.

An Impartial and Expert Aid

Senior High Core Collection contains entries at 3 recommendation levels encompassing a wide variety of topics for youth, ranging from material on Native Americans and rainforest ecology to health issues. Additional subject coverage includes biographies, art, sports, Islam, the Middle East, cultural diversity and other contemporary topics.

The online version of this collection provides more content (two additional recommendation levels, Supplemental and Archival) to aid in selection for larger libraries and subject-level collections, and includes features–such as book review citations and excerpts, book covers, advanced searching and sorting capabilities, and monthly content updates—not available in print.

What are Core Collections

For all of your collection development and maintenance, general reference and readers’ advisory needs, Core Collections—formerly H.W. Wilson's Standard Catalogs—are reliable guides to help librarians build and maintain well-rounded collections of the most highly recommended reference, non-fiction and fiction books.

With a solid history of excellence—which has earned respect and recognition within the library market—these collections are the only collection development tools on the market with clear recommendation levels and documented selection criteria. This gives these collections an unparalleled level of credibility and authority as impartial and expert aids.
